NOTE: Email is NOT a file storage system, it’s primarily a text communication tool. It’s bad practice to send large attachments, ie anything over 1mb, via email. Current technology does not feasibly allow for unlimited email storage so we recommend that if you need to send large files, send a link to a file through a third party service such as wetransfer, dropbox or google drive or Zoho Drive!

Sending files via email is the standard way to get photos and documents to a recipient quickly and easily…but it is not the BEST way!

Sending large files by email has multiple problems such as:

  • Spam filters
  • Email attachment file size restrictions
  • Server failures
  • Local Email setup issues
  • and a lot more!

so heres how to avoid it!

Google Drive

Use Google Drive. Pretty much everyone has a google account. That means you also have GOOGLE DRIVE! Try it by clicking this link:

https://drive.google.com/

If you need to login just use your standard Gmail or google account login details.

Once in there you will see a screen similar to this:

This online file management system works exactly like your locla computer. Folders, files and all are managed right here!

To upload your files simply click:

NEW

select FOLDER

Name the Folder something unique like “Photos for Arctic Spas”

Click CREATE

then you will have a new folder ready to add files.

You have 2 choices.

Drag the files from the folder on your computer and simply drop them on to the page!

or like it says, click the NEW button again

Click FILE UPLOAD and browse to the files and just select them all and click OPEN or OK to upload them!

So there ya go, all the files are now on Google drive. So now to share the folder!

Easy!

in the breadcrumbs at the top of the folder click the folder name:

and then select GET LINK.

Under General Access, change that to “ANYONE WITH THE LINK”

Next, change the ROLE to EDITOR

Now there is a nice button saying COPY LINK – click that and the link to the folder will be on your clipboard.

Now just open your email, send it as normal and paste the link you copied into the email.

Thats it!

The recipient will get the email, click the link and the folder will open and they can grab them and download them without having ot worry about any of the email issues mentioned earlier! Also, sending a link means the email has is a tiny file size and will arrive instantly!

Easy!
